The Malone University volleyball team went 0-2 on the first day of the Midwest Region Crossover in Indianapolis, dropping a pair of four-set matches to Quincy University and William Jewell College, both of the GLVC. The Pioneers, who will play a third match at the event on Saturday, fell to 6-14 on the season.
 
Quincy 3, Malone 1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-23)
The Pioneers opened the morning session with a win in the first set, in which they never trailed, but promptly lost the next three sets. A 9-0 run by the Hawks in set two, a 9-1 run in set three, and a 7-0 run in set four proved to be Malone's undoing.
Kayla Jarosz  recorded a team-high 13 kills, 
Elizabeth Selleny distributed a team-high 24 assists, and 
Faith Lau achieved a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. 
Rachel Santos collected seven kills and three blocks, 
Brooklyn Sullivan assisted on four blocks, and 
Sydney Black and 
Abby Hasebein led the back row with 17 and 13 digs, respectively.
William Jewell 3, Malone 1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16)
After not leading in the first set, Malone used a 7-0 run in the second set to take its first lead and then held on late, winning five of the final seven points in the frame. It was all Cardinals in the final two sets, however, as Malone lost its sixth-straight match. The Pioneers struggled with serve receive all evening, allowing 13 aces in defeat.
 
Junior 
Brooklyn Sullivan registered a career-high 10 kills on just 20 swings to lead the attack. 
Rachel Santos added nine kills, 
Faith Lau had eight kills and 
Anna Mallette and 
Kayla Jarosz each finished with seven. 
Elizabeth Selleny handed out 21 assists while 
Abbie Swaino recorded 14 assists.
 
Sydney Black tallied 19 digs, 
Faith Lau totaled 14 digs, and twin sister 
Sierra Lau collected a career-high eight digs in the back row.
