Men's Soccer Hopes to Make Big Splash in Conference Standings on the Road

The Malone University men's soccer team travels to Nashville, Tennessee this weekend to play Trevecca Nazarene University on Thursday, October 17 at 8 pm (7 pm CDT), followed by a Saturday, October 19 contest against Kentucky Wesleyan College at 4:30 pm (3:30 pm CDT). All three teams are just outside the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship playoff picture and the stakes are high as Malone, Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan all try to make a bid for post-season play in 2019.

Series History:
After winning their first game in program history against Alderson Broaddus last week, the Pioneers look to have the same success against Trevecca Nazarene this week. Since joining the G-MAC, Malone is 0-4-0 against the Trojans. Last season, Malone fell to Trevecca Nazarene 2-1 after the Trojans netted a pair of goals with under 10 minutes to play.

Malone is 4-1-1 versus the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers all-time. In 2018, the Pioneers and Panthers battled to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play in the first of two matches between the teams. Malone ventured to Owensboro to take a 3-2 win later in the season. Senior Stephen Radonjich put the game away with a game-winning goal in the 65th minute.

Record: 2-5-2 (1-5-1)

Malone split contests last weekend, dropping a 1-0 match to Ohio Valley and defeating Alderson Broaddus by the same score. Nick Wilhelm registered his first career shutout in a win against the Battlers and Nathan McFeaters converted in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the 53rd minute to send the Pioneer bench and fans into a hoopla.

McFeaters leads Malone with four goals on the season. He has taken 15 shots, eight of them on-goal. Simon Eybert and Gino Finelli have 15 total shots for the Pioneers as well. Patrick Alvarez holds the crown for most attempts with 19.

Defenders Nick Fry and Jonathan Dendinger are the only two players who have played every minute on the pitch this season. Jamal Rasheed made his third start of the season against Alderson Broaddus and helped to contribute defensively to the shutout.

Christopher Mally has had a breakout performance in the month of October, and made his first start of the season versus the Battlers. He recorded an assist on the lone McFeaters goal in the game.

Reed Coffman and Michael Jones share the team lead in goals scored with four apiece. Jones has taken a team-high 26 shots, 13 of which were on-goal. Jones' 26 shots is ninth in the conference.

Thomas Campbell and Tadg McEvoy anchor the Trojan defense and have started all 10 games Trevecca Nazarene has played.

Record: 4-6-0 (2-5-0)

Kentucky Wesleyan will play Walsh before battling the Pioneers on Saturday, October 19. The Panthers lost a close battle with Lake Erie by a score of 2-1 last week. The game against Malone will be the last before going on the road for four of their final five contests. Kentucky Wesleyan is 2-4 on their home turf this season.

Their conference wins have come from defeating Ohio Dominican in overtime and winning at Trevecca Nazarene.

The Panthers have allowed a conference-high 28 goals this season, but have made the most saves in the G-MAC. Lucas Daunhouer has been the Panther keeper for all 10 matches this season. He has accumulated 70 saves on 154 shots faced.

Ben Protheroe and Anatoli Gishe have been the focal points of the Kentucky Wesleyan offense. Protheroe has four goals on 14 shots and Gishe has three goals on 14 shots. Jake Peveler has also chipped in with one goal on 12 shots.
