The Malone women's soccer team conquered the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-0. The Pioneers are now 7-1-0 on the season and advance to 4-1-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. Alderson Broaddus drops to 2-7-0 and 0-6-0 in the conference.
Â
Danielle Lung netted three goals in the game, the second hat trick she has achieved in 2019.
Â
"It was really cool to come out and play hard and beat them 6-0. We are looking forward to upcoming road trip!" said Malone defender
Andrea Fink about today's game.
Â
Even as a defender, Fink opened up the game by taking the first shot of the contest for either team in the second minute of play.
Â
Danielle Lung started an influx of scoring for the Pioneer offense with a goal in the sixth minute when she took a free kick from just outside the box and hooked it inside the post to make it 1-0.
Â
At the 15-minute mark, Lung was on the receiving end of quick ball movement from the Pioneers to score her second of three goals. Defender
Brooke Lindenschmidt sent the ball up the left side of the pitch to a cutting
Riley Nicholson, who threaded a ball through the Battler defense to record assists.
Â
Sally Culig tallied her first career goal as a Pioneer in the 25th minute when she collected a free ball, dribbled passed defenders and sent a laser into the back of the net from just inside the 18-yard box.
Â
Lung completed the hat trick in the 35th minute off a pass from
Keeley Malley to make it 4-0 going into halftime.
Â
A Battler own goal in the 49th minute made the score 5-0 and
Kirsten Hilty put half a dozen on the scoreboard with a goal in open space in the 57th minute.
Â
Malone outshot Alderson Broaddus 21-3 in the contest and possessed the ball for 62% of the game.
Â
Haleigh Seman picked up the win in goal and
Jessica Morgan played the entirety of the second half.
Â
The trio of
Haley Berry,
Alexis Huscroft and
Addisyn Lewis steadied the defense to close the game out.
Â
Savannah Ebin,
Carolina Nakata,
Anna Schmeltzer and
Jeanette Soricelli created opportunities and kept the ball on the Pioneer offensive side of the field late.
Â
Next weekend, Malone makes their farthest road trip of the season when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee to face Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday, November 17, followed by a Saturday, November 19 match-up with Kentucky Wesleyan.
