The Malone women's soccer team lost a tightly contested, defensive focused match against Trevecca Nazarene 1-0. The loss is only the second time the Pioneers have come up short this season, making their record 7-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene improve their record to 4-7-2 overall and 4-4-0 in the conference.
Â
In the opening minutes, Trevecca Nazarene fired off a pair of shots, but keeper
Haleigh Seman made a save on the first look, and the second was blocked by the Malone defense.
Â
Malone would get three opportunities to score in the first half, and only one of the shots was on goal.
Â
The Trojans scored the lone goal in the contest just after halftime in the 51st minute. Abbigail Legg sent a pass behind the Pioneer defenders and Gigi Ariola ran the ball down and put it passed Seman in net to make it 1-0 Trevecca Nazarene.
Â
Just five minutes later, the Pioneers worked to get the ball in the box, and
Keeley Malley had a header that was collected by the Trojan netminder Delayna Holman.
Â
The Pioneers kept the ball in their own attacking zone late in the game, rattling off six corner kicks from the 76th minute to the 80th minute, but were unable to tie the match.
Â
Ultimately, Trevecca Nazarene would hang on and secure the win and limited Malone to only nine shots, two on-goal.
Â
Keeley Malley was the only Pioneer player with two shots on the day.
Alexa Langenfeld,
Danielle Lung,
Kirsten Hilty,
Megan Fuller,
Natalie Martorana,
Payton Beech and
Savannah Ebin took one shot each.
Â
Malone next takes the pitch on Saturday, October 19 when the Pioneers look to bounce back versus Kentucky Wesleyan. Kick-off will be 1 pm (12 pm CDT).
