The Malone University volleyball team suffered a 25-20, 18-25, 16-25, 14-25 loss to rival Walsh University Friday night in a jam-packed Osborne Hall. With the loss, Malone fell to 6-12 overall and 1-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Walsh, with the win, improved to 10-4 on the season, 4-0 in G-MAC play.

Early on in the opening set, senior libero
Sydney Black achieved a personal milestone, collecting career dig number 1,000. The Pioneers hurried out to a 9-3 lead in the frame and never trailed, landing 13 kills while taking advantage of 11 Walsh errors.
After winning the first set 25-20 in front of an enthusiastic crowd, Malone would not lead again until early in fourth set when a
Kristen Hankins kill gave the hosts a 2-0 edge. Walsh quickly bounced back to tie the match and then pulled away with a 7-0 run before cruising to a four-set triumph.
Black finished with a match-high 17 digs in the defeat as she also reached 300 digs in a season for the first time in her four-year career.
Faith Lau aided Black in the back row with nine digs to go along with six kills on the attack.
Kayla Jarosz led Malone with eight kills while
Anna Mallette and
Brooklyn Sullivan each produced seven kills.
Rachel Santos spiked six kills and sent back two Walsh attacks with a pair of blocks.
Abbie Swaino contributed a team-high 16 assists.
Lauren Loucks led Walsh with a match-high 17 kills while Hallie Schroeder added 14 kills and six of the Cavs' 11 service aces.

Malone travels to Indianapolis next weekend to take part in the Midwest Region Crossover. The three opponents for the event will be announced early next week.
