The Malone University men's soccer team goes on the road Wednesday for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match versus undefeated and number 9 team in NCAA Division II Lake Erie College. The match will start at 7 pm.

The Pioneers and Storm have already done battle in the 2019 season. On the September 10 match, Lake Erie defeated Malone 1-0 in overtime. This was the first home game back on campus for the Pioneers. The Storm outshot Malone 18-7 in the game.

Malone lost back-to-back matches last week on the road to Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus. The team is 1-2-1 away from home this season.
As a team, the Pioneers have taken 78 shots, compared to 84 by opponents. In those 78 shots, however, 39 of them are on-goal (.500 shot on goal percentage). Malone's shot on goal percentage is second in the G-MAC.
Seniors
Jonathan Dendinger and
Nick Fry have shown veteran leadership on the pitch this season and have been workhorses defensively for the Pioneers.
Patrick Alvarez and
Nathan McFeaters have been the primary offensive weapons, each with 11 shots this season, including a team high two goals from McFeaters.
Through six games last season,
Simon Eybert only had one shot attempt in 356 minutes played, but he is having a bit of a breakout sophomore campaign with 10 shots in 506 minutes on the field.

Lake Erie was dominant last week in a 4-1 victory over Findlay and a 2-0 win versus Tiffin. They find themselves atop the G-MAC standings with 12 points. They are also ascending the national rankings, jumping four spots this week to number 9 in the country among NCAA Division II teams.
Goalkeeper Tom John won G-MAC Athlete of the Week honors for soccer for the second time this season. John has allowed a conference-low three goals in 742 minutes played. His .914 save percentage in net also leads the G-MAC.
Ayden Von Essen leads the offense with four goals scored this season and Javier Borreguero has netted three game-winners for the Storm.
Jonathan Carr scored the game-winning goal against the Pioneers in overtime earlier this season and has three goals on the year.
Freshman Tom Akinola is the team's leading shot taker with 15 and has converted on three of them.
