The Malone University's men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 road defeat at Tiffin University on Saturday afternoon.
Malone hung tough with a scoreless tie 0-0 at halftime. Tiffin's potent offense was too much for the Pioneers to hold off in the second half.
The Dragons scored in the 52nd minute as Leo Hasenstab kicked one in from the right side with the help of Abdoul Magid Sy's assist. Abdoul Magid Sy went on to score on his own in the 67th minute. Then in the 79th minute, Spencer Wood took matters into his own hands by stretching the Dragons' lead to 3-0 over the Pioneers.
Malone managed to start a comeback in the 83rd minute as
Patrick Brightbill notched his first goal of the season.
The Dragons entered the contest tied for first place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings with a 5-2-0 record. With the win, Tiffin takes over sole possession of first place.
Malone slipped to 3-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the conference with the defeat while the Dragons improved to 8-3-0 and 6-2-0 in G-MAC competition.
Tiffin held a 19-6 edge in total shots and a 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Pioneer goalkeeper
Alexandre Durand registered five saves on the afternoon.
Malone is still in the playoff hunt sitting in the seventh seat with the opportunity to climb into one of the top six spots next week.
