Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Efficiency Is The Difference In 1-0 Win Against Findlay

The Malone University men's soccer team won 1-0 over the University of Findlay on Thursday afternoon at Canton Central Catholic High School.

Malone's efficiency was the difference and their defense held tough.  Jake Martell notched his first goal and game winner of the season into the upper left corner of the net past the goalkeeper in the 15-minute mark with the help of Patrick Alvarez on the assist.

There was no more scoring from the 15-minute mark on by either team thus Martell's goal held up for the Pioneers to secure their third win of the season.

The Oilers really applied the pressure the whole match with 30 shots and 13 corner kicks versus the Pioneers' 8 shots and 1 corner kick.  The Pioneers' goalkeeper Alexandre Durand negated their efforts by securing his third shutout of the season while making six saves.  Durand's biggest stop of the afternoon came in the 79th minute of play when he turned away a penalty kick attempt from Findlay's Josh Hales.

With this win, the Pioneers are in the seventh seat in the G-MAC standings knocking on the door of the playoff race.

The Pioneers go to 3-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference with the win while the Oilers dropped to 2-7-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the G-MAC.
