The Malone University men's soccer team was victorious over Walsh University at home Saturday night 1-0.
Gino Finelli broke away and scored the game winning goal in the 76th minute.
Evan Dekker aided with an assist on the score. This gives Finelli his second goal (2) of the season.
Saturday was another outstanding performance by goalkeeper
Alexandre Durand who kept Walsh from scoring on a penalty kick and received his first shutout of the season.
The Pioneers' record is now 2-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the G-MAC.
The match was physical with Malone receiving 12 fouls, six yellow cards and one red card. Walsh countered with a physical match of their own with 16 fouls and three yellow cards. The Pioneers played the final 18 minutes with 10 players due to the red card which was credited late in the second half.
The Cavaliers' record is 3-3-1 overall and 1-3-1
This was the Pioneers' first shutout victory since defeating Slippery Rock 1-0 on September 1, 2016 and their first win over Walsh since September 14, 2016. Malone now moves ahead of Walsh in the G-MAC standings.
