The Malone University men's soccer team secured its first win of the season 3-2 on the road over Lake Erie College in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match Thursday night.
The Pioneers came out fast and scored their first in the 12th minute by
Patrick Alvarez. Quickly in the second half,
Gino Finelli scored in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0.
Sam Condon followed in the 58th minute, getting his team leading second goal of the season. Malone was efficient as all three of their shots-on-goal found the back of the net.
Malone continued to hold Lake Erie scoreless until in the 73rd minute when the Storm got on the scoreboard with a tally from Javier Borreguero.
Borreguero then struck again in the 82nd minute, trimming the Pioneer lead to just one. However, Malone managed to hang on over the final eight minutes of play to secure the conference victory and the first collegiate coaching win for first-year head coach
Eric Reed.
The Pioneers improved to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference while Lake Erie fell to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the G-MAC.
Malone will come back home to play crosstown rival Walsh University on Saturday night September 15th.
