The Malone University men's soccer team (0-1-0) fell in its season opener to out of conference opponent Roberts Wesleyan College (1-0-0) by a score of 3-1, Thursday, August 30
th at Canton Central Catholic field. The Redhawks came out in the first period with two goals, the first goal came at 25 minutes with a score by Dylan Ruiz (1) with an assist by Karl McNulty and the second goal came at 29 minutes by Terrell Spencer (1) with two assists by Daniel Maxwell and Dan Reger.
The Pioneers closed within one goal by the half at 32 minutes as senior #8
Sam Condon (1) tallied his first goal of the season which was a lofted shot in the left corner over the goalkeeper off a pass from freshman #35
Daemon Thomas (1), his first assist of the season. Later in the second half, the Redhawks scored a goal at 67 minutes by Ruiz (2), his second goal of the match.
The match was a physical one with the Redhawks receiving two yellow cards and the Pioneers three yellow cards (the second yellow resulted in a player's ejection). Pioneer freshman goalkeeper #18
Alexandre Durand had six saves. The Redhawks managed to have 10 shots on goal while the Pioneers had three.
It was a very warm sunny evening with partly cloudy skies and in attendance were 55 fans.
The Pioneers' next home game will be Saturday, September 1
st at Canton Central Catholic against the Daemen College Wildcats.
