The Malone University men's soccer team (0-2-0) fell to out-of-conference opponent Daemen College (1-1-0) by a score of 1-0, Saturday, September 1st at Canton Central Catholic field. The Wildcats and Pioneers had a defensive standoff in the first period 0-0, the first and only goal came in the second half.
The Wildcats' #6 Anthony Cupello scored his first goal (1) of the season unassisted from 20 yards out as he fired a shot past the goalkeeper at the 65 minute mark. The Pioneers' freshman goalkeeper #18 Alexandre Durand had seven saves. The Wildcats managed to have 13 shots-on-goal while the Pioneers had three. It was a cleanly played match with only one yellow card by the Wildcats and two by the Pioneers.
It was a warm sunny afternoon with partly cloudy skies and in attendance were 135 fans.
The Pioneers' next home game will be Tuesday, September 4th at Canton Central Catholic where they look to upset inter-conference 25th-ranked Davis & Elkins College.
