Malone Wins Three-Setter at Alderson Broaddus

The Malone University volleyball team earned its second sweep in as many days with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-17 victory over Alderson Broaddus University Saturday afternoon in Philippi, West Virginia. With the win, Malone improved to 15-11 on the season and 11-3 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, edging closer and closer to clinching a G-MAC postseason berth.

Recap
The Pioneers overcame a six-point deficit in the first set, flipping a 7-13 disadvantage into a 14-13 lead on a 7-0 run.  Tied later in the frame at 17-17, Malone pulled away by winning seven of the next nine points and finally claimed the set on a kill by Rachel Santos.

The second set was close early before Malone used a 7-0 Faith Lau service run to turn a 9-8 lead into an insurmountable 16-8 advantage. Lau eventually sealed the set for the Pioneers with her sixth and final kill of the frame. Malone raced out to a 16-6 lead in the final set and was never seriously challenged in handing Alderson Broaddus (8-18, 2-13 G-MAC) its 10th straight loss.

Lau hit a season-high .464 in the match and finished with a match-high 15 kills and four services aces to lead the Malone attack for a second consecutive match.  Veronica Gehring added nine kills while Hannah Eliason totaled eight and Mallory Adams produced six. Senior setter Cathryn Miller was credited with 36 assists.

Eliason and Miller led the defensive effort in the front row, notching five and four blocks respectively. Faith Lau completed the double-double with 12 digs while Maggie Hamrock led the squad with 13 digs and Sydney Black pitched in with nine.
