The Malone University men's and women's track and field teams took part in Bucknell University's Bison Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday evening.
Several Pioneers registered personal-best marks on the day, led by
Hannah Thompson and
Jade Smith in the 10,000 meters. Both student-athletes broke the Great Midwest Athletic Conference record in the event while also provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships. Thompson took over the No. 5 position on the Pioneers' all-time 10K performance list after placing 19th among 46 competitors with a time of 36:32.20. Smith, meanwhile, secured the eighth position on Malone's all-time list after finishing 21st in 36:34.26.
In the men's 5000 meters,
George McCartney finished second among 129 entrants with a personal record time of 14:51.75. The strong showing ranks as the ninth-fastest 5K time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history.Â
Brett Cortelletti crossed the finish line in a personal best 15:13.38 and
Lorne Strausbaugh posted a time of 15:48.47.
In the women's 5000 meters,
Rachel Wentworth won her heat, placing 13th overall among 70 competitors in 17:53.26. The performance ranks as the 10th-fastest 5K time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history.Â
Laura Tweedie was 32nd in the 5000 with a new personal-best time of 18:12.43.
Erin Moomaw also tallied a personal record mark of 18:23.52 while
Rachel Koons clocked a time of 18:43.36, which was just over a second off her personal best in the event.
Malone will be back in action on Saturday at the Walsh University Invitational.
