Two More G-MAC Records Broken By Track & Field At Tiffin Dragon Open

Results

The Malone University indoor track & field teams had another record-breaking day at Tiffin University's Dragon Open on Saturday

Freshman Olga Branney won the high jump competition with a leap of 5'6". In the process, the Green High School graduate, tied the Pioneers' all-time record and broke her own Great Midwest Athletic Conference record. Branney improved upon her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying position and joins former Pioneer standouts Theresa Dyer & Erica Knowles, who both reached the 5'6" mark during the 1986 indoor season.

Senior Duke Taylor finished second in the weight throw competition with a new Malone and G-MAC record of 62' 7.75".  The impressive heave improves Taylor's NCAA Division II provisional qualifying position.  It also marks the fifth time this year that he has broken the conference weight throw record and the third time he has broken his own school record in the event.

Additional Women's Highlights
One day after provisionally qualifying for the NCAA DII National Championships in the 800 meters at Grand Valley State University, senior Erika Rector (Green H.S.), placed first in the one-mile run with a time of 5:21.19.

Sophomore Katie Grimes placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.51.

Freshman Michelia Tanner earned a 10th-place finish in the women's weight throw with a heave of 45' 11.25".  The performance moves Tanner into a tie for fifth on Malone's all-time performance list in the event.

Additonal Men's Highlights
Sophomore Ashton Dulin took third in the 400 meters with a time of 50.93 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.97 seconds.

Austin Cary, an NCAA Division II Academic All-America defensive lineman on the Pioneer football team, also took part in the weight throw, placing 14th with a heave of 47' 2.5".  The impressive toss places Cary seventh on the Pioneers' all-time performance list in the event.

The Pioneers will be back in action next Saturday at the Kent State University Tune-Up Meet.
