The Malone University indoor track and field teams posted a number of impressive performances on Saturday at the Spire Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
Duke Taylor won the weight throw competition with a new Malone and Great Midwest Athletic Conference record of 18.92 meters (62' 1"). The impressive heave improves Taylor's NCAA Division II provisional qualifying position. It also marks the fourth time this year that he has broken the conference weight throw record and the second time he has broken his own school record in the event.
Katie Grimes and
Emily Luli both broke Malone's indoor 600-meter record on Saturday afternoon. Grimes placed second overall with a mark of 1:36.34 while Luli was right behind, finishing third in 1:36.75. The duo surpassed the previous school record of 1:37.72 that was set by Ashton Avery in 2011.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles,
Ashton Dulin improved upon his NCAA Division II qualifying mark and just missed out on setting a new school record and a G-MAC record as he placed fourth in the event finals with a new personal-best time of 8.14 seconds. The impressive showing was .03 seconds off Lepear Smith's 2015 Malone record of 8.11 seconds and just .02 off the G-MAC record of 8.12 seconds.Â
