The Malone University softball team lost 10-6 in game one and fell 4-3 in a great comback effort in game two against GLIAC opponent the University of Findlay on Saturday afternoon in Canton, Ohio.
The Pioneers will take on Hillsdale College (MI) on Sunday, April 3rd at Pioneer Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. Â
Game One Recap:The Oilers scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding 7-0 early lead.
The Pioneers drilled back in the bottom of the first inning as
Ashley Beck notched a triple to bring
Alexa Holztrager and
Mikayla Fowler across the plate to make it a 7-2 contest. Later in the inning,
Allison Mercado grounded out to second base, allowing
Ashley Beck to score a run, making it a 7-3 game.
In the top of the second inning, Findlay scored three more runs to extend their lead to 10-3.
In the bottom of the third inning, Mercado singled up the middle which brought Holztrager to home plate. Two plays later,
Ashley Beck scored a run off
Emily Beck's sacrifice fly to cut the deficit in half, making it a 10-5 contest. Â
Malone had one last attempt to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs in the inning, Holztrager tallied a single to left field, bringing
Shelby Hulin in for the run. Malone made a great comeback effort, but fell short, giving Findlay the 10-6 win.
Ashley Beck played fantastic offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate, collecting two runs scored, two RBI's and generating her first career triple.
Holztrager finished the game with two runs scored and a RBI.
Game Two Recap:Findlay's Jenna Huff doubled through the right side in the bottom of the second inning, putting the Oilers ahead 1-0.
With windy conditions, defense was key to this game as the next run wouldn't cross the plate until the bottom of the fourth inning when Findlay's Kelsey Borders slammed a solo home run, pushing the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
Ashley Beck continued with the hot hitting as she blasted a three-run home run to put Malone on top 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Â Â
The Pioneers' lead didn't last long, as the Oilers' Lauren Trumpler drilled a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing Findlay to rally back for the 4-3 victory.
Ashley Beck went 1-for-1 at the plate, notching one run scored, and registering three RBI's.

Kari Hall tossed three strikeouts in 2.1 innings played as a reliever.
