The Malone University softball team lost to Tiffin University by the final score of 7-1 in game one, while the second game of the doubleheader was halted in the top of the fourth inning due to weather conditions on Wednesday afternoon. Unless it affects the seeding for the playoffs, the two teams will not make up the second game.
The Pioneers will take on rival Walsh University now on Sunday, April 10
th at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. instead of playing on Saturday as it was originally scheduled.
Game One Recap:Tiffin scored their first run of the game off a fly out in the top of the first inning to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Dragons belted a two-run homer and a solo home run in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 4-0.
In the fifth inning, Tiffin notched another two-run homer to increase the lead to 6-0.
Mikayla Fowler slammed her first career solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Malone on the board, 6-1.
The Dragons went on to score another run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 7-1 contest.
The Pioneers had one more chance to collect some runs, but were unable to produce any, giving the visitors the victory.
Fowler went 1-for 3 at the plate and notched her first career homer, while
Alexa Holztrager went 2-for-4 at the plate.
