Men’s Basketball Picks Up 71-67 Victory At Alice Lloyd

The Malone University men's basketball team secured a 71-67 non-conference win on Saturday at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

Malone led by as many as 16 points midway through the first half before taking a 35-29 advantage into the locker room at halftime.  The Pioneers never trailed the rest of the way, improving to 2-2 on the season following the four-point triumph.

Game Highlights
-The two teams combined to attempt 61 three-pointers in Saturday's contest.  Malone made 10 of 34 (29.4%) while Alice Lloyd connected on eight of 27 (29.6%)
-Both squads took advantage of their frequent trips to the foul line.  The Pioneers sank 17 of 23 (73.9%) at the stripe while the Eagles drained 21 of 25 (84%) free throws
-Overall, Malone made just under 38% of its field goals while Alice Lloyd was limited to 33.3% shooting
-The Pioneers never trailed in the contest

Malone Individual Highlights
-Forward Mitchell Spotleson matched his previous career high with 24 points (10-of-16 FG, 3-of-7 3pt, 1-of-1 FT).  He also grabbed nine rebounds and a steal.
-Guard Nate Sheppard added 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range
-Guard Ty Jordan tallied 10 points, six rebounds and five assists
-Forward Brandon Bapst totaled 10 points
-Forward Chris Johnson contributed 8 points off the bench

Alice Lloyd Individual Highlights
-The Eagles were paced by guard Austin Crisp's 20 points
-Guard Blake Smith posted 11 points and six boards

Up Next:
Malone and rival Walsh University will square off in Osborne Hall on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. The contest will mark the second and final meeting of the regular season between the two teams as the Pioneers will look to avenge last Saturday's Mayors' Cup defeat at Alumni Arena.
