Last-Second Goal Lifts Cedarville Past Pioneers In Overtime

The Malone University men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss in its home opener against visiting Cedarville University on Tuesday afternoon.

In warm and sunny conditions with temperatures reaching near 90 degrees, the two teams battled back and forth without a goal over 90 minutes of regulation and nine minutes of the first overtime period.

The Yellow Jackets finally broke through in the 100th minute of play as CU's Connor Gilmour headed in a cross from teammate Jon Brown just before the final horn sounded.

The loss dropped Malone's record to 0-2 on the season while Cedarville improved to 2-1.

The Pioneers return to action next Monday as the squad begins Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action with a 7:00 p.m. match at rival Walsh University.

Game Highlights:
-Keeper Jon Crabbs made six saves on the afternoon
-The Yellow Jackets held a 23-7 edge in total shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal
-Tuesday afternoon marked Malone's first overtime contest since October 24th of last season when the Pioneers notched a 2-1 victory at home over Ohio Dominican University in double overtime
