Amy Adams Invite Final ResultsThe Malone University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams completed the second day of competition at the Wake Forest University (NC) Open Saturday as numerous other Pioneer student-athletes also competed today at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational, hosted by Muskingum University.

At Wake Forest, for the Pioneer women,
Erika Rector finished an impressive eighth among a staggering 104 entrants, across 10 heats, in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:13.93. The time was just .23 seconds off the school record, set by Ashton Avery in 2010 (2:13.70). In addition,
Mackenzie Keller finished 21st in the event with a time of 2:17.76.

For the men,
Matt Hendrix finished sixth, among an impressive 82 competitors, in the 800 meters in a personal-best time of 1:53.16 while
Brandon Simmons finished 18th in 1:57.10.

At the Amy Adams Memorial, several Pioneer athletes were double winners on the day as both Malone teams posted solid team finishes. Â The Pioneer women's squad finished second, among 11 team scoring points, with 136 points as Walsh University won the women's meet with 143 points. Â The Malone men's team tallied 104 points for a third-place finish, among the 11-team men's field, as John Carroll University won the men's team title with 155 points.

For the men's squad, among 23 throwers in the hammer throw,
Duke Taylor finished runner-up with a toss of 165' 10.25" while
Michael Irwin finished ninth in 131' 1".

Taylor also went on to win the discus throw, among 31 in the event, with a 148' 10.5" while Irwin took seventh in 124' 3.75". In addition,
Chad Sanner placed 10th in 118' 11.5".

Lepear Smith captured the win in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.99 seconds. He had placed second in the prelims of the event in a time of 16.19 seconds.

In the pole vault, Malone went 1-2 as
Ethan Nichols won with a leap of 15' 7.5" while
Mark Butler took the runner-up spot at 14' 5.5".

Lavell Morgan took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 6'4".

Luis Carbajal placed third among 37 entrants in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:09.57. Carbajal would also later take third, among 23 runners, in the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.92.

Lorne Strausbaugh finished fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:58.11.

In the 400-meter hurdles,
Matt Shoup paced the Pioneers with a third-place finish in 57.99 seconds while
Thomas Elton was sixth in 1:00.85.

Among 30 throwers in the shot put,
Tim Makowski finished third at 45' 10.75".
Â
Among 32 sprinters in the 200-meter dash, Tomeko Holness placed fifth in 23.36 seconds while
Cameron Mack was seventh in 23.44.

In the 400 meters,
Marc Megenhardt led the way for Malone with a ninth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 52.72 seconds.

Irwin represented the Pioneers in the javelin as he placed ninth, among 25 competitors, with a throw of 147' 11".

Among a 10-team field in the men's 4x400-meter relay, the Pioneer team of
Eric Barto, Megenhardt, Elton and Shoup finished third in 3:27.73.

For the women, all four Pioneer competitors among the 100-meter hurdles prelim field qualified for the finals as
Hannah Boss then went on to post a convincing win in the finals with a time of 15.71 seconds.
Corrina Ruffener placed runner-up in 17.05,
Carly Woodruff took fourth in 17.12 and
Kelsey Veldhuizen came in fifth in 17.24.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Boss also captured this event with a winning time of 1:05.90 while Ruffener took second in 1:09.16.

In the 100 finals,
Crystal Barber,
Karli Oprian and Veldhuizen each qualified for the finals with Barber going on to capture the win in the finals in 12.88 seconds. Oprian took third in 13.05 while Veldhuizen placed sixth in 13.74.

Among 32 sprinters in the 200-meter dash, Barber became a double winner, following her win in the 100, by capturing the event in a time of 26.08 seconds while Oprian took fourth in 27.17.

Among 26 throwers in the hammer throw,
Lyndsey Bates took second with a toss of 146' 4.25".

Morgan Kelly finished in a tie for second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10' 5.5", which was just off her PR of 10'6". In addition,
Maggie Pikna placed seventh at 8'6".
Â
Kelly paced Malone in the high jump with a fourth-place finish at 4' 10.25" while
Christina McCarthy took seventh at 4' 8.25".

Taryn Chapman took fourth in the 400 meters in 1:00.75 while
Emily Luli also grabbed a top-ten finish by placing seventh in 1:02.68.

In the discus,
Samantha Soeder took fourth, among 37 competitors, with a toss of 122' 11.5".

Tayler Carpenter represented Malone in the long jump and placed fourth, among 13 entrants, with a leap of 15' 7.75".
Â
Madeline Cramer took fourth in the 5000 meters in 19:10.86 while
Erin Moomaw was sixth in 19:17.19.

In the women's 4x400-meter relay, the unit of Boss, Barber, Chapman and
Emily Fisher placed second, among a seven-team field, in a time of 4:09.09.

The Malone teams will next compete at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Caroline State University, in Raleigh, North Carolina March 27-28.
