Day One StoryThree Malone University Women's Indoor Track & Field school records fell on the final day of the GLIAC Championships in University Center, Michigan on Sunday while several NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying marks were also posted. Â The Malone men's team finished sixth among 13 teams while the Pioneer women's squad finished eighth among 15 teams competing.

In the men's meet, Malone tallied 36 points for its sixth-place finish as Grand Valley State University (MI) won the men's team championship with 155 points. In the women's meet, the Pioneers totaled 23 points for their eighth-place finish as Grand Valley State also won the women's team title with 156.5 points.

For the women, among 34 runners in the 800 meters,
Erika Rector set a new school record in a time of 2:13.97, eclipsing the old mark of 2:14.36 (
Tina Oprean, 2014). The mark was also an NCAA provisional qualifying time. In addition,
Mackenzie Keller placed seventh in 2:15.60, a time which places her at #2 on Malone's all-time performer list and one that was just .16 seconds from an NCAA provisional time.

Among 31 runners in the 3000 meters,
Hannah Campbell set a new school record and finished sixth in an NCAA provisional time of 9:54.61, breaking a 12-year-old Malone mark (J. Kocsis, 9:56.47, 2003), while
Madison Schuler and
Sara Polatas placed 13th and 14th, respectively, in times of 10:17.95 and 10:18.11.

In the final women's race of the championships, the 4x400 relay team of
Hannah Boss,
Taryn Chapman, Rector and
Emily Fisher finished fourth among 13 teams in 3:54.35. The time was a new school record which edged the previous school mark of 3:55.76 from last weekend.

In the finals of the 200-meter dash,
Crystal Barber placed seventh in a time of 25.61 seconds.

Mattison Rankin placed 13th, among 30 entrants, in the one mile run in a time of 5:07.08. The time edged her own previous personal best of 5:07.39 that she set earlier this season and which is still #2 on the school's all-time performer list for the event.

For the men, in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles,
Lepear Smith finished third in a new-school record and NCAA provisional time of 8.11 seconds. The time broke his own school mark of 8.12 seconds that he set earlier in the season.

In the 3000 meters, among 27 contestants,
Ryan Roush crossed the finish line in third place in an NCAA provisional time of 8:22.36.
Andrew Trusty placed fifth in 8:28.09 while
Luis Carbajal took 14th in 8:45.83.
In the pole vault, among 18 vaulters,
Mark Butler cleared a personal-best height of 15' 1" to place seventh while
Ethan Nichols finished ninth with the same height.

Among 23 entrants in the one-mile run,
Scott Whitaker placed fifth in 4:14.09 while
Gage Black finished ninth in 4:17.40 and
Nate Boyer came in 10th at 4:18.16.

Lavell Morgan took eighth place in the high jump with a leap of 6' 4.25".

In the 800 meters,
Matt Hendrix finished 11th, among 30 runners, in a time of 1:55.52.

Tim Makowski took 21st in the shot put with a toss of 47' 9.75".

In the final event of the championships, the men's 4x400 relay unit of
Matt Shoup,
Marc Megenhardt,
Eric Barto and Hendrix finished 12th in a time of 3:25.71.
Although numerous Pioneer student-athletes have posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks this season, they will find out this week if any of the marks are good enough to earn a berth to the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Alabama March 13-14.
