Hillsdale Results Mt. Union ResultsThe Malone University men's and women's indoor track & field teams sent athletes to two different meets this weekend – to the Hillsdale College (MI) Wide-Track Classic on Friday and Saturday and also to the University of Mt. Union's Jim Wuske Invitational on Saturday.
At the Hillsdale meet, many Pioneer highlights were posted on both days.
For the men's team at Hillsdale, in the Distance Medley Relay Championship race, the team of
Brandon Simmons,
Matt Shoup,
Matt Hendrix and
Scott Whitaker finished second among six teams with a time of 10:17.58.
After moving on from the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles,
Lepear Smith posted the second-fastest time in the semis at 8.32 seconds to qualify for the finals. Then, in the finals, he took third in a time of 8.30 seconds.
In the men's 800-meter dash Championship Division race, Hendrix placed ninth among 28 runners in a time of 1:56.00.
Among 31 runners in the 3000 meters,
Nate Boyer took fourth in a time of 8:59.89.
In the Championship Division of the 3000 meters,
Luis Carbajal took fifth in 8:44.99 while
Gage Black was right behind in sixth in 8:45.45.
In the 5000 meter Championship,
Jordan McKelley placed fifth among a 10-man field in a time of 15:23.65.
For the Malone women at Hillsdale, in the 3000-meter Championship Division,
Sarah Meek placed seventh among 16 runners with a time of 10:31.90.
In the Distance Medley Relay Championship race, the Malone unit of
Mattison Rankin,
Emily Fisher,
Erika Rector and
Hannah Campbell placed third in a time of 12:13.78.
In the 60-meter dash, after moving out of the prelims with the fourth-fastest time of 7.84 seconds,
Crystal Barber ran a 7.88 in the semis to qualify for the finals. Then, in the finals, she posted a sixth-place finish in a time of 7.87.
In the 200 meters Championship division, Barber placed ninth in a time of 25.89 seconds.
Hannah Boss competed in the 400-meter dash and placed fifth among 33 entrants in a time of 1:00.59.
Boss also made it to the 60-meter hurdles semis after posting a time of 9.15 seconds in the prelims. In the semis, she came up just short of qualifying for the finals with a time of 9.14.
In the 800-meter Championship Division,
Erika Rector placed sixth among 21 runners in a time of 2:18.41 while
Mackenzie Keller was ninth in 2:20.56.
In the 5000 meter run Championship,
Laura Tweedie placed sixth out of 13 runners with a time of 19:46.88.
At Mt. Union, for the men's team,
Nick Fresenko placed first among 28 runners in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:48.25. In addition, Dan Furno placed eighth in a time of 9:18.83.
In the weight throw, among 37 competitors,
Duke Taylor launched a throw of 57' .75" to finish in third place overall.
Among 41 throwers in the shot put,
Tim Makowski placed fifth with a throw of 48' 7.25".
In the pole vault,
Ethan Nichols placed fourth out of 25 vaulters with a height of 15' 1.5".
In the 5000 meters,
Spencer Ziegler took fifth among 16 runners with a time of 16:26.27.
For the Pioneer women at the Mt. Union meet, in the pole vault among 18 vaulters,
Morgan Kelly leaped to fourth place with a height of 10' 6.25".
Among 37 throwers in the weight throw,
Lyndsey Bates took third with a throw of 51' 11.75".
In the long jump,
Tayler Carpenter placed third among 29 jumpers with a distance of 16' 5.75".
Among 14 runners in the 500-meter dash,
Emily Luli finished second with a time of 1:21.71 while
Emily O'Dell took fifth in 1:24.60.
In the 5000-meter run, among nine competitors,
Madeline Cramer placed third with a time of 19:24.69.
In the one mile run,
Jade Smith placed 10th among 22 participants in the event with a time of 5:40.08.
The Malone teams will next compete at the Kent State University Tune-Up Meet on Saturday, February 21st.
