GameDay Notes: Malone Travels to GVSU Tuesday for First GLIAC Tournament Appearance

GLIAC Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals:
Nov. 3: Malone at DII #2 Grand Valley State University (MI)- 7:00 p.m.
(Malone #8 tournament seed, GVSU #1 seed)

Malone clinched the #8 seed in the GLIAC Tournament after beating Walsh University 1-0 on Friday afternoon. Grand Valley State clinched the #1 overall seed and captured their 11th consecutive regular season league title.

Malone Notes:
-Josh Jones enters his second-year as the Pioneers' head coach.
-Malone is coming off a thrilling 1-0 home victory to rival Walsh University on Friday. Defender Kaela Kovanda scored the lone goal - her second tally of the season.
-Junior's Christine Najjar and Brianna Smith have been the driving force for the Malone offense. The duo has combined for a total of 53 out of the Pioneers' 71 points this season. In addition, they have registered career-highs in goal, assists, and points.
-Najjar leads the team with 28 points (12 goals and four assists) and finished the regular season ranked third in the GLIAC in goals (12) and third in points (28). In addition, Najjar is 8th on Malone's all-time career scoring list with 24 goals and 11th on Malone's most points in a career list with 55.
-Smith is the second leading scorer for the Pioneers this season with 10 goals and five assists (25 points). She finished the regular season ranked eighth in the GLIAC in goals (10) and sixth in points (25). In addition, Smith is tied for 10th on Malone's all-time career scoring list with 21 goals.
-Freshmen goalkeeper Leah Rauscher has tallied 118 saves on the season. She finished the regular season ranked third in the GLIAC in saves (118) and recorded three shutouts this season. 
-This is the first time since 2010 that Malone has won seven games in a season.
-Tuesday's game will be the first postseason appearance since 2011 when the Pioneers lost to Ursuline College in the opening round of the Ohio Independent Championships.


 Grand Valley State Notes:
-Jeff Hosler is entering his second year as the Lakers' head coach.
-The Lakers are returning 17 players from last year's squad, six of which started 15 or more games.
-Last season, GVSU won their eighth consecutive GLIAC Tournament Title, beating Ohio Dominican University 2-1.
-The Lakers won the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship, beating NCAA DII #8 Rollins College (FL) by the final score of 3-0. In the last six years, GVSU has won four Division II National Championships. 
-The Lakers leading scorer in 2014 was freshmen Gabriella Mencotti who finished the season with 16 goals and 11 assists (43 points).
-The leading scorer for GVSU this season is junior Marti Corby who has registered 19 goals and 13 assists (51 points) and finished the regular season ranked first in the GLIAC in points (51), assists (13), and goals (19).
-There are five Lakers who finished the regular season ranked in the top 15 in the GLIAC in points: Corby (51), Kendra Stauffer (27), Katle Klunder (20), Gabriella Mencotti (20), and Jayma Martin (18).
-The Lakers lost 3-0 in their season-opener at Quincy University (IL), but have since won 16 straight games.  
-Goalkeeper Emily Maresh finished the regular season ranked first in the GLIAC in goals against average (0.46) and goals against (six).
