Josh Jones 2016

Josh Jones

2017 will mark Josh Jones’ fifth year as the full-time head coach of the Malone women's soccer team and his sixth year as a member of the Pioneer coaching staff.  Prior to becoming the head coach, Jones handled a significant portion of the coaching duties for the Pioneers while former head coach Leta Gramlich was on maternity leave for much of the 2012 campaign.  In addition to his experience with the women’s squad, Jones also served as an assistant for the Malone men’s soccer team in 2010.

Last season, Jones led Malone to 9-9-2 record and a berth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Postseason Tournament. The Pioneers upset #3 seed Cedarville in the G-MAC Quarterfinal s before falling to eventual runner-up Ursuline in the semifinals. The nine wins marked the highest single season total since 2009 and the postseason berth was the Pioneers’ second-consecutive.

In 2015, Jones guided the Pioneers to their best record since 2010 and their first postseason berth since joining NCAA Division II. After clinching a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, Malone fell to eventual National Champions Grand Valley State in the opening round.

Jones wrapped-up his four-year Pioneer playing career in 2009 and graduated from Malone in the spring of 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science including minors in History and Coaching.  He also earned a post-baccalaureate degree in Education at Malone and is currently working on his Masters in Coaching Education from Ohio University.

Jones recently received his USSF National B license.  In addition to his Malone coaching responsibilities, he also previously served on the coaching staff for the Internationals Soccer Club girls teams, ages U9 through U18. Jones' coaching resume also includes experience with the West Virginia and Ohio North Olympic Development Programs.

Jones, a native of Little Hocking, Ohio and a Warren Local High School graduate, is married to Bailey (Teague) Jones, who is also a Malone graduate.  The couple has two sons, Brennan (born December 2013) and Parker (born October 2016).
