Baseball Drops Pair Of Games At Northwood

First baseman Logan Gray notched his 14th double of the season during game two on Saturday. The senior posted a total of three base hits during the doubleheader.

The Malone University baseball team suffered losses of 5-0 and 11-1 in its doubleheader at Northwood (MI) University on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers' record fell to 17-27 overall and 12-16 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference following Saturday's action while the Timberwolves improved to 15-23 and 7-17 in conference play.

The two teams will wrap up their three-game weekend series on Sunday with a nine-inning game starting at 12:00 p.m.

Game One Recap
Malone put runners on base in six out of seven innings in the opener but was unable to bring anyone home.  Northwood got on the scoreboard with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning.  The hosts then added three more runs in the fourth after stringing together three straight one-out base hits.

Northwood's Steven Latos earned the victory after scattering four hits over the first 5.1 innings.  Right-hander Taylore Baker hurled his sixth complete game of the year for the Pioneers, yielding the five runs (three earned) on eight hits.

First baseman Logan Gray and shortstop Kyler King each went 2-for-3 at the dish to pace the Malone line-up.

Game Two Recap
The Timberwolves took command early on in the finale, plating seven runs over the first two innings before tacking on four more runs in the fourth. 

The Pioneers' lone run came in the top of the fourth as King drew a lead-off walk and then later crossed the plate on Gray's double to centerfield.

Four Malone errors proved costly as six of Northwood's 11 runs were unearned.

The Pioneers' notched five hits in the game with one each for Gray, King, catcher Matt Davis, second baseman Tyler Eagon and leftfielder Daulton Ritter.
