ResultsThe Malone University men's and women's indoor track & field teams closed out their second and final day of competition at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala on Saturday.Â
For the Malone men,
Matt Hendrix captured the 800 meters in a time of 1:59.81.
Eric Barto paced the team in the 400 meters with a 10th-place finish in a time of 51.50 seconds while
Marc Megenhardt took 17th in 52.52.
In the  500 meters,
Brian Cassler placed 14th in 1:21.18.
In the seeded pole vault event,
Ethan Nichols posted a third-place finish with a leap of 15' 7", which was a personal best for him and also an NCAA national provisional qualifying mark. Â In addition, in the unseeded pole vault event,
Mark Butler also posted a personal best and also finished in third place clearing the bar at 14' 7.25"Â
For the Malone women,
Erika Rector finished second in the finals of the 1000-meter run in a time of 3:01.85.
Crystal Barber earned a spot in the finals of the 60 meters with an eighth-place finish in 7.82 seconds. Then, in the finals, she finished sixth in a time of 7.83 seconds. Later, in the 200 meters, Barber finished sixth, among 45 competitors in the event, in a time of 25.94 seconds.
Hannah Boss paced Malone in the 400 meters with a ninth-place finish in 1:00.07 while
Emily Luli placed 17th in 1:01.53.Â
In the women's 60-meter hurdle prelims, Boss finished 16th in a time of 9.40 seconds but did not qualify for the finals.
Corrina Ruffener placed 20th in 9.63 seconds.
Jaylyn Vance finished 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 31' 4.5".
In another meet on the day, at the Spartan Holiday Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University, two Pioneer student-athletes competed and each captured first-place finishes. Â In the women's weight throw,
Lyndsey Bates bested everyone in the 28-woman field with a winning toss of 53' 11.75", which was over four feet farther than the runner-up. In the men's weight throw, among 13 competitors,
Duke Taylor won with a throw of 56' 10", which was over two feet farther than the runner-up. In addition, the throws by Bates and Taylor were also NCAA national provisional qualifying marks.
The Malone teams will next compete at the Northwest Ohio Invitational, hosted by the University of Findlay, on January 16th.
