Moore Scores Game-Winning Goal in Double Overtime Against Panthers

The Malone University men's soccer team won a thrilling double-overtime contest against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Ohio Dominican University on Friday night by a final score of 2-1.

The Panthers were first to jump on the scoreboard as they scored in the 26th minute of the first half to take an early 1-0 lead. The score stayed the same at intermission.

It was a battle of the defenses Friday night as both teams only allowed seven shots in the first half.

The Pioneers would not back down in the second half as defender Troy Malsky took advantage of a direct kick and drilled the ball into the net to tie the game at one apiece in the 66th minute.

The last 24 minutes of the game were physical and aggressive as both teams would fight hard for possession, ending regulation still deadlocked at 1-1.

In the first overtime, neither team was able to produce a goal as Malone would be the only team to have a shot at the net.

In the 107th minute of the second overtime, Sam Tonelli dished off a pass to Kurt Moore who passed by the keeper to sneak in a goal in the lower left-hand corner, lifting the Pioneers over the Panthers. This was Moore's first goal of the season.

Keeper Jon Crabbs continued to impress as he made key saves throughout the night. He finished with nine overall.

The Pioneers' final home match-up will be on Sunday, October 26th as they host GLIAC opponent Lake Erie College at 1 p.m. Sunday is also senior day as the team will be honoring the graduating class before the start of the game.
