Women's Tennis Drops Home Contest To Michigan Tech 9-0

Senior Janelle Linder nearly pulled off a win against her #3 Michigan Tech singles opponent but lost 6-3, 2-6, 0-1 (11-13).

Match Results

The Malone University women's tennis team lost a 9-0 contest at home on Friday to GLIAC opponent Michigan Tech University in a match that was moved indoors to the Green Tennis Club since rain began just as the match was about to start at the Harvard Courts.  With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 0-5 on the season (0-4 GLIAC) while the Huskies improved to 1-3 overall (1-3 GLIAC).

Two Malone singles players came as close to winning their matches as they could get without posting the W as Janelle Linder and Krista Leonard both lost in three sets and by the slimmest of margins in the third and final super-tiebreak set.  Linder fell 6-3, 2-6, 0-1 (11-13) while Leonard lost 6-4, 1-6, 0-1 (8-10).

In addition, Leonard and Alexis Hill gave their #3 doubles opponents all they could handle in a hard-fought 8-5 loss.

Special Note:  While most of the Pioneer team competed at the home MTU match, three Malone individuals competed at the Oberlin College Invitational today.  Chrissy Cameron and Christine Miller teamed up for an 8-6 doubles victory over their College of Wooster opponents while Kayla May partnered with a Case Western Reserve player but fell short by the score of 8-3 in their doubles match.

Malone will next compete in another home match tomorrow (Saturday) as the Pioneers host Saginaw Valley State University (MI) in a 12:00 p.m. match at the Harvard Courts.
