Malone University was among 41 institutions that were recently honored with the United States Olympic Achievement Award, an award bestowed upon those colleges and universities that contributed to Team USA's medal count during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Malone, which was one of only four non- NCAA Division I institutions to receive the prestigious honor, received the distinction based upon
Jack Hazen, the Pioneers' long-time men's and women's cross country head coach, being the men's distance coach for the 2012 United States Olympic Track & Field Team.
The awards, given by the United States Olympic Committee, were presented at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention in Orlando, Florida on June 14th. The ribbon for the medal that each institution received was designed by Al Oerter Artworks. Oerter was a four-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time NCAA champion for the University of Kansas.
