Asia Harris, a freshman on the Malone University women's tennis team, recently wrapped up her first season as a Pioneer (2012-13 season) by earning the prestigious NCCAA All-America honor for her performance this year.
Playing in the #1 singles spot for the Pioneers, Harris posted an impressive 21-8 record which was the best singles record on the team this year. In addition, she tallied a 16-11 mark in doubles, playing primarily at the #3 slot with teammate
Marie Konstan.
Harris helped lead Malone to a 15-15 overall record on the year (including a 2-12 mark in the team's first year in the powerful NCAA Div. II GLIAC conference) and a berth into the NCCAA East Region playoffs this spring. In that regional playoff, in the deciding contest to determine who would advance to the NCCAA National Tournament, Malone lost to Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) in a close 5-4 match.
Last fall, in the team's primary season of competition, Harris earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention accolades. She also earned an NCCAA Student Athlete of the Week distinction twice – once during the fall and once in the spring.
