The Malone University baseball team posted a 1-1 record during its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Lake Erie College on Friday, picking up a 3-2, extra-inning victory in the opener before falling 11-4 in the finale.
After the Storm rallied to tie the opener at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Pioneers pulled in front in the top of the tenth when third baseman
Bob Suitca delivered his fourth hit of the game, a one-out RBI single that scored rightfielder

Jesse Coblentz, who had entered the game in the bottom of the ninth, then worked a scoreless bottom of the tenth to secure the Malone victory while improving his record to 2-1 on the year.
In game two, Lake Erie took command early on, building an 11-0 advantage after scoring runs in each of the first five innings.
The Pioneers' record moved to 17-24 overall and 10-16 in the GLIAC following Friday's games while the Storm now stand at 12-27 overall and 9-16 in conference play.
Malone will be back in action on Saturday when the squad opens its weekend series at Hillsdale (MI) College with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Chargers will provide live audio and statistics at

Game One Recap
Lake Erie pulled ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning of the opener with a lead-off single and three passed balls. Malone knotted things up in the fifth. Designated hitter
Logan Gray led off the frame with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by leftfielder
Keanan Locke and then scored on a groundout by second baseman
Tyler Eagon.
The Pioneers then pulled in front in the top of the seventh with the help of a pair of Storm fielding miscues. Lake Erie rallied in the seventh, sending the contest to extra innings with a one-out RBI single.
Malone stranded runners at first base in the eighth and ninth before taking the lead for good on Suitca's hit in the tenth.

Jared Messer tossed eight strong innings for the Pioneers, surrendering just the two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out eight.
Suitca paced the Pioneer lineup, going 4-for-4 with a walk and four singles.

Dillon Stertzbach faced just three batters in the finale before being forced to leave the game with an injury.
The Storm brought home a total of eight runs over the first three innings to put the contest out of reach.
After being limited to one hit over the first six frames, Malone broke through with four runs in the top of the seventh. Pinch hitter
Taylore Baker got the Pioneers on the scoreboard with an RBI double. Malone then added runs on an error, passed ball and fielder's choice groundout.
Lake Erie starting pitcher Adam Beach picked up the win (3-3), giving up one hit and two runs over the first six innings.
