The Malone University women's tennis team closed out its 2012-13 regular season on Wednesday with a 9-0 victory on the road against Ursuline College. The win was the fourth straight and seventh in the last eight contests for the Pioneers and it enabled them to finish at 14-14 overall and earn a berth into the NCCAA East Regional Tournament. With the loss, Ursuline dropped to 1-8 overall.
Each of the six singles wins was posted in straight sets by the Pioneer players including 6-0, 6-0 wins by #1
Asia Harris and #6
Marie Konstan.
Kaley Kahoun only lost one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles.
In doubles, Harris and Konstan again blanked their opponents by not losing a single game in their 8-0 #1 doubles win while
Erika Lester and
Alexis Hill, playing at #2, also tallied an 8-0 victory.
With today's win, and achieving a .500 record, Malone has earned a spot in the three-team NCCAA East Regional Tournament which will be held on Friday, April 26th in Erie, Pennsylvania. Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) and Geneva College (PA) are the other participants. Each team will play the other on that date and the team with the overall best record at the end of the round-robin format will advance to the NCCAA National Tournament that will be held in Mobile, Alabama May 7-10.
