Box Score
The Malone University baseball team suffered an 11-5 defeat on Saturday afternoon in the final game of its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with Northwood (MI) University.
The Timberwolves (8-9 overall, 3-3 GLIAC) took command early on, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Following a leadoff double, the next three batters drew walks to plate the first run of the game. Northwood then added a pair of RBI hits and a sacrifice fly to complete the early scoring.
Malone (9-13 overall, 2-7 GLIAC) pulled to within 5-3 in the third. Catcher
Hayden Mobley got the Pioneers on the scoreboard with a two-out RBI single. Third baseman

Northwood answered back in the top of the fourth, chasing home three runs to increase its lead to 8-3. The Timberwolves then tacked on a solo run in the eighth and two more runs in the ninth.
The Pioneers cut into the 11-3 deficit in the bottom of the ninth, bringing one run home on a RBI single by centerfielder
Daulton Ritter and a second run with a bases-loaded walk by Mobley. Malone was unable to pull any closer, though, as a flyout to center with the bases loaded brought the contest to a close.

Joe Costello,
Jack McDonald,
Brad Beachy and
Paul Durbak all worked at least an inning of relief.
