The Malone University baseball team rolled to a 13-3 victory on Saturday evening in a nine-inning contest against Benedictine (IL) University at Springfield.
After posting victories of 3-0 and 7-6 over the Bulldogs on Friday, Malone took command early on in Saturday's game, scoring five runs over the first three innings. The Pioneers then tacked on three runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach and improve their record to 3-0 after two days of competition at the Tucson Invitational.
Lefty
Alex Haines started on the mound and picked up his first win of the year after limiting Benedictine Springfield to two runs on seven hits over the first five innings. Relievers

Paul Durbak, and
Jordan Booth then combined to allow just one unearned run the rest of the way.
Third baseman
Bob Suitca accounted for four of the Pioneers' 15 hits, ripping singles in his first four at-bats. Catcher
Matt Davis and centerfielder
Daulton Ritter each drove in four runs apiece. Davis clubbed two-out, two-run doubles to left-center in both the first and third innings. Ritter posted an RBI single in the second inning, a two-run single in the sixth and then drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.
Rightfielder
Michael Chack also had a big day at the plate, ripping RBI singles to center in the sixth and seventh innings. Second baseman
Bryce Miller swiped two bases to go with two singles and two runs scored.
The Pioneers will have an off day in Arizona on Sunday before returning to action on Monday with a 3:00 p.m. MST (5:00 p.m. EST) doubleheader against Northern State (SD) University (3-1 overall).
