Bourlas Sisters On Board To Play Tennis at Malone

Sisters Natalie and Nicolette Bourlas, of North Canton, Ohio, have signed letters of intent to play tennis for the Malone University women's tennis team, fresh off of leading Hoover High School to their best record in school history (23-1) and a Federal League Championship.

Natalie is a four-year letter-winner under Coach Ryan Shaffer, who played #3 singles and #1 doubles at Hoover. She boasted a record of 38-4 her senior year, and 98-12 record for her entire high-school career. For her efforts she was an All-Federal League, 1st Team All-Stark County, and 2nd Team All-Ohio selection. Natalie also received the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Golden Racquet, given to tennis players who have lettered twice while maintaining a career GPA of 3.75 or higher. On tennisrecruiting.net Natalie is ranked 30th in the state of Ohio and # 118 in the Great Lakes Region. Natalie is also ranked 9th in Northeast Ohio by the United States Tennis Association. At the state tournament, Natalie won the deciding singles match that took Hoover into the State Championship match where Hoover placed second overall.

Nicolette is a four-year letter-winner who played #1 singles and #1 doubles. Nicolette went 27-14 as a senior and 104-33 for her career. The 104 career wins leaves her tied for third on the all-time win list for Hoover Girl's Tennis. Individual awards include 1st Team All-Federal League, 1st Team All-Stark County, and 2nd Team All-Ohio honors.. Nicolette also received the OTCA's Golden Racquet award for her efforts in the classroom. On tennisrecruiting.net, Nicolette is a 2-star recruit, ranked 27th in Ohio, and 102 in the Great Lakes Region. Nicolette is also ranked 3rd in Northeast Ohio by the USTA.

The Bourlas sisters, who are fraternal twins, made up a doubles team that went 11-3 in 2013, 33-3 in 2012, and totaled an impressive 44-6 career mark. In their last two years, they were sectional runners-up and champions, as well as district runners-up and champions, which helped them qualify for the state tournament both years. As seniors, they lost a tight quarterfinal match at the state tournament. Both girls received team MVP's in both 2012 and 2013.
"Natalie and Nicolette not only can get it done on the court and in the classroom, but they are two of the nicest girls I've met," beamed head coach Brian Mogus. "They come from a good family and a good school; the next four years will be a pleasure."
