Elena Duncan (class of 2010) was a four-year letter winner and NAIA National Qualifier for the Malone University women's golf team. In this Alumni Spotlight, she shares about her experience at Malone, and how it prepared her for life as an assistant golf professional.
“When I began my college search, I was looking for a Christian school where I could grow spiritually, play golf competitively, and develop a sense of independence. From the day of my first visit, I knew I had found all of those things! Malone was the perfect school for me.
I treasure my time at Malone so much. I loved the Canton area. My professors were truly interested in me as an individual, and I received a quality education. I even spent an unforgettable semester in Australia. But it was the golf team that became my passion.
Playing in the NAIA National Championship in San Diego, California was simply too exciting to describe. Our spring break trips to Pinehurst, North Carolina, and Alabama were a blast! Winning, and even heartbreaking losses in tournaments, fueled my love for competition.
I began as a freshman just trying not to whiff on the first tee because of nerves. I finished as a senior trying to provide leadership and mentoring to the younger girls. It was an exhilarating journey throughout! The best part of all, by far, has been the relationships developed with my teammates. I love them like family. I know our friendships will last throughout our lifetimes!
My education degree and golf experience prepared me well for a career in the golf business. I currently work as an assistant golf professional at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana during the summer and at Golf Stream Golf Club in Delray Beach, Florida in the winter. No matter where life takes me, though, I will always remember my time at Malone.”
