The Malone University women's tennis team embarked on its second Michigan road trip in as many weekends on Friday, competing at powerhouse Grand Valley State University (MI) in a GLIAC contest. The Pioneers fell short against the Lakers, who finished second in last year's GLIAC tournament, by the score of 9-0.
With the win, GVSU, in its first match of the year, improved to 1-0 (1-0 GLIAC) while Malone dropped to 1-5 overall and to 0-4 in GLIAC play.
Although eight of the nine matches on the day were by convincing margins by the hosts, Malone's
Asia Harris nearly captured a win for the Pioneer team. After losing her first set 6-3, Harris posted a solid 6-2 second-set victory of her own before dropping a 10-7 decision in the third and final set.
