The Malone University baseball team picked up a pair of victories on Friday afternoon at Miami University Hamilton's Foundation Field.  The Pioneers opened the day with a 10-3 triumph over the University of Cincinnati-Clermont.  Malone then plated six runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away for a 10-2 win against MU-Hamilton in the squad's second contest of the afternoon.

With the pair of victories, the Pioneers stretched their winning streak to four straight games, improving to 11-13 overall.

Malone will continue play in Hamilton, Ohio on Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader against the Harriers.

Malone-UC Clermont Recap
The Pioneers took command of their first game of the day by plating five runs in the top of the first inning.  Shortstop Joe Goddard led off the contest with a triple and later came home to score on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Bob Suitca.  Four straight two-out base hits and a wild pitch allowed Malone to tack on four more runs in the inning.  Second baseman Logan Gray drove in the second run of the game with an RBI double and designated hitter Frank Dufour followed with a two-run single.

Clermont got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.  The score then remained at 5-1 until the top of the sixth as rightfielder Marc Adams led off the frame with a double and then later crossed the plate on a Cougar error.  Clermont cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back two-out base hits.

However, the Pioneers then managed to put the game away with four more runs in the top of the seventh.  Malone once again did most of its damage with two outs as leftfielder Sam Craciun brought home two runs with a two-out single.  Following a wild pitch, Goddard then chased home Craciun with a single.

Malone piled up 15 hits in the contest.  Gray went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.  Goddard, first baseman Matt Anderson, Suitca, Adams and Craciun all added two hits apiece.

Right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Newhart picked up the victory (3-1) after tossing the first six innings.  Newhart limited Clermont to the three runs (two earned) on six hits.  He also struck out seven while working around four walks.

Malone-MU Hamilton Recap
The Harriers held early leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in Friday's second game.  Malone tied things up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Anderson.  A two-run double by centerfielder Adam Heideman made the score 4-2 in the top of the sixth before the Pioneers managed to pull away with six runs in the top of the seventh.

Malone got the big seventh inning started with six straight base hits.  After a leadoff double by Gray, Dufour made the score 6-2 with his second homer of the year.  A two-run triple by Goddard and an RBI single by Anderson then put the game out of reach.

Right-handed pitcher Jared Messer started on the mound and picked up the win (5-1) after tossing his fourth complete game of the season.  The junior limited Miami-Hamilton to the two runs (one earned) on just four hits.  Messer struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

After the 15-hit performance in game one, the Pioneers cranked out 18 hits in game two.  Anderson went 5-for-5 at the plate, ripping five singles with two runs scored and two runs driven in.  Craciun posted three hits in four at-bats with a double, two singles, a stolen base and two runs scored.  Goddard and Heideman each added two hits apiece.
