The Malone University women's tennis team lost a home match to the visiting Walsh University Cavaliers by the score of 7-2 on Wednesday. The loss snapped Malone's five-match winning streak as the Pioneers fell to 6-8 overall on the season and to 1-7 in GLIAC play. Walsh improved to 2-6 overall and to 2-6 in the GLIAC.
Six of the nine matches were extremely close with the Cavaliers earning victories in four of those contests. After Walsh posted victories at #2 and #3 doubles to start the match, it appeared that Malone would take the #1 doubles match to trim its deficit to just 2-1 heading into the singles matches. But the visitors rallied to collect a 9-7 win at #1 doubles to take a 3-0 advantage into the singles contests.
Although Malone battled toe to toe in nearly every singles match on the day, the Pioneers emerged the victor in only the #1 and #2 singles contests as
Asia Harris and
Erika Lester, respectively, pocketed the wins for the team.
