Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision At Mercyhurst

The Malone University women's soccer team fell to Mercyhurst (PA) College, in an away contest on Saturday, by the score of 3-1. The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead, then added another goal early in the second half before Malone drove home the final score in the contest midway through the final period.

In the first half, the Lakers earned goals on a penalty kick and off a free kick. After Mercyhurst's third and final goal just three minutes into the second half, Malone earned its lone goal at the 68-minute mark as Brianna Moran, off an assist from Ally Smith, drilled a shot just inside the left post from 15 yards out.

For the game, Mercyhurst held a 22-3 advantage in total shots and also held a 10-0 margin in corner kicks. Pioneer goalkeeper Angie Nutial posted five saves in 64 minutes of action while goalie Sam Soeder, who came on for the final 26 minutes of play, posted three saves (no goals allowed). The Laker goalie did not have a save on the day.

With the loss, Malone dropped to 0-6 on the season while Mercyhurst improved to 5-2-1.

Malone will next compete in a home contest against Penn State University-Beaver (0-9) on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
