Pioneers Capture Mid-Atlantic Powerade Classic; Richie Schembechler Takes Medalist Honors

Richie Schembechler captured medalist honors with a 54-hole, eight-under-par score of 208 (71-67-70) to lead Malone to the team title on Tuesday.


Final Results

The Malone University men's golf team won its second straight tournament in as many events this fall as the team captured the two-day 54-hole Mid-Atlantic Powerade Classic at the par-72 River Greens Golf Course in Coshocton, Ohio on Tuesday. 

The Pioneers finished first among a 16-team field with an impressive 11-under-par score of 853 (288-280-285) to easily defeat runner-up University of Charleston (WV), which tallied an 871, by 18 strokes. Clarion (PA) University took third at 875, California University of Pennsylvania was fourth at 884 and West Chester (PA) University rounded out the top five at 886.

Richie Schembechler earned medalist honors at the event with an incredible eight-under-par score of 208 (71-67-70) as Malone placed 1-2-3 in individual scoring. Jay Hollifield grabbed that number two spot overall with a five-under-par score of 211 (71-67-73) while Tyler Light finished third with a four-under 212 (72-70-70). 

Also competing on the Malone varsity squad for this event were Jon Clark, who tallied a score of 224 (74-77-73) for 25th place, and Ryan Headley, who carded a 226 (78-76-72) for 29th place.

Malone also had five student-athletes compete as individuals at the event. These golfers (with scores) included Garrison Myles, who tied for seventh, at 219 (75-64-80), Connor McCaulley at 224 (76-75-73), Matt Ludlow at 231 (79-78-74), Steve Robison at 242 (88-80-74) and Tommy Miano at 242 (79-82-81).

Malone will next compete at the Cleveland State University Fall Invitational October 3rd and 4th.
