Pioneers Capture Own Fall Classic

Richie Schembechler finished second for Malone and in a tie for third overall with a two-day score of 142 (70-72). Freshman Ryan Headley (no action photo available yet), in his first collegiate tournament, led Malone with a second-place finish at 141 (70-71), losing in a sudden-death playoff.


Final Results 

The Malone University men's golf team captured its own Malone Fall Classic at the par-72, 6694-yard Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers finished first among an eight-team field over the two-day event.

Malone posted a two-day score of 578 (288-290) to defeat runner Holy Cross (IN) College, which finished at 588 (290-298), by ten strokes. Huntington (IN) University took third place at 593 (303-290), Madonna (MI) University was fourth at 595 (302-293), Spring Arbor (MI) University placed fifth at 615 (300-315), Mt. Vernon Nazarene University came in sixth at 620 (311-309), Grove City (PA) College finished seventh at 636 (319-317) and Urbana University rounded out the field at 646 (324-322).
Huntington's Jordan Dawes and Malone's Ryan Headley finished in a tie for first with scores of 141 but Dawes took home medalist honors after chipping in an eagle on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Headley, a freshman, was appearing in his first collegiate tournament for Malone and he fired the 141 with rounds of 70 and 71.
Richie Schembechler finished in a tie for third overall with a 142 (70-72) while Tyler Light tallied a 147 (74-73) to finish in a tie for sixth. Also competing in Malone's top five were Jay Hollifield at 148 (74-74) and Jon Clark at 149 (74-75).
Five other Pioneer student athletes competed as individuals at the event including Matt Ludlow at 149 (71-78), Garrison Myles at 150 (76-74), Connor McCaulley at 151 (77-74), Tommy Miano at 155 (76-79) and Steve Robison at 156 (80-76).
Malone will next compete at the Mid-Atlantic Powerade Classic at the River Greens Golf Course in Coshocton on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 19-20).
