The Malone University baseball team lost a pair of American Mideast Conference games at Cedarville University Saturday afternoon, falling 5-0 in the opener and 7-1 in game two. After being held to just one run in a doubleheader sweep at Thurman Munson Stadium on Thursday, the Yellow Jackets turned the tables at their home field Saturday in the completion of the four-game series. Following a nearly three-hour rain delay, CU starting pitcher T.J. Taylor tossed a four-hit shutout in game one. The Pioneers then grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning of the finale before Cedarville stormed back with seven unanswered runs. Malone's record fell to 25-15 overall and 3-5 in the AMC with Saturday's defeats. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, improved to 23-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

Cedarville grabbed a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning of game one. The Pioneers threatened in the top of the second by loading the bases with two outs but were unable to get on the scoreboard. Taylor settled in from that point forward as he did not allow a Malone runner to move beyond first base over the final five innings. The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 5-0 victory. Right-handed starting pitcher Jared Messer suffered the loss (3-4) after giving up the five runs on nine hits over the first 4.2 innings. Designated hitter T.J. Rosenberg tallied two of Malone's four hits in the game with a pair of singles.

Centerfielder Allen Strouble got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the third inning of game two after getting hit by a pitch, moving to second on a single by shortstop Joe Goddard and then coming home to score on a Yellow Jacket error. Cedarville answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame as the first five batters of the inning reached base on four singles sandwiched around a Malone fielding miscue. The Yellow Jackets then put the game out of reach with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Right-hander Camden Carter suffered the loss (3-1) after surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits over the first 2+ innings.

Malone will look to bounce back next Friday when the squad returns to action with a 3:00 p.m. AMC doubleheader at Notre Dame College.
