Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At NCCAA Nationals; Jay Hollifield Leads Malone With 11th-Place Finish

Jay Hollifield posted Malone's best round for the second straight day as he shot a 73 on the final day to pace Malone to a ninth-place finish overall at the NCCAA National Championships. With an 11th-place finish individually, Hollifield missed NCCAA All-America honors by one spot and two strokes.


Final Results

The Malone University men's golf team posted its best round of the tournament on the final day of the NCCAA National Championships to finish in ninth place among 18 teams that began play on Monday. At the Hombre Golf Course in Panama City, Florida on Wednesday, the Pioneers posted a score of 299 for a three-day total of 924 (321-304-299).

Holding the 10th spot after day two, and making the 12-team cut at that point, Malone improved one position for ninth place while California Baptist University extended its day-two lead and won the team title with a final score of 887 (294-302-291). CBU finished 14 strokes ahead of runner-up finisher Dallas Baptist (TX) University, which tallied a score of 901 (297-304-300). Southeastern (FL) University placed third at 903 (306-301-296), North Greenville (SC) University took fourth at 906 (305-303-298) and Trevecca Nazarene (TN) University rounded out the top five at 911 (307-296-308).

Jay Hollifield paced Malone for the second straight day as he fired a team-best round of 73 on the final day. With a 225 total (+9), after rounds of 82, 70 and 73, Hollifield finished in a tie for 11th among 93 golfers who started out on Monday. In addition, he finished just one spot and two strokes from a top-ten NCCAA All-America finish.

Tyler Light shot a 75 and posted a score of 230 (81-74-75) to finish 26th overall while Richie Schembechler carded a 76 for a 232 total (78-78-76). In addition, Ryan Headley tallied a 77 on day three to finish at 239 overall (80-82-77) and Jon Clark finished with a final round of 75 for a 244 total (85-84-75).

With the conclusion of the NCCAA National Championships, Malone has completed its fall campaign.
