Pioneer Men's Golf Takes Phipps Memorial; Richie Schembechler Finishes Runner-Up

Senior Richie Schembechler finished as the runner-up (tied with one other golfer) at the Phipps Memorial with a round of 73 to lead Malone to the team title.


Results

The Malone University men's golf team captured the Phipps Memorial Tournament among a three-team field at the Congress Lake Country Club in Hartville, Ohio on Wednesday. With a score of 304, the Pioneers bested Walsh University, which finished second at 307, and the University of Mt. Union, which placed third at 323.

For Malone, Richie Schembechler led the charge by firing a round of 73 which placed him in a tie for second overall among 30 golfers in the field. Ryan Headley was next for the Pioneers and in fifth overall with a score of 76. Tyler Light was right behind at 77, Jay Hollifield tallied a 78 and Garrison Myles carded an 85.

Five other Malone golfers competed as individuals at the event -- Steve Robison at 74 (T4th), Jon Clark at 77, Matt Ludlow at 81, Tommy Miano at 82 and Connor McCaulley at 83.

Malone will next compete at the University of Dayton Flyer Invitational October 17th and 18th.
