Pioneers Fight Back To Defeat NCAA Division II Shepherd (WV) On Pair Of Goals By Jasmine Evans

The Malone University women's soccer team overcame a 1-0 deficit at NCAA Division II Shepherd (WV) University on Wednesday afternoon as forward Jasmine Evans scored twice in the final 20 minutes of the match to lift the Pioneers to a 2-1 victory. Following a scoreless first half, the Rams pulled ahead with a goal just over six minutes into the second stanza. The hosts then maintained their advantage until the 71st minute as Evans knotted the contest at 1-1 after scoring off a pass from midfielder Sarah Heckman. Evans then struck again just eight minutes later, netting the game-winner off an assist from midfielder Katie Heckman. The come-from-behind victory improved Malone's overall record to 3-3-0 while Shepherd dropped to 2-3-0.

Evans' pair of scores marked her second and third goals of 2010. The Pioneers held a narrow 8-7 advantage in total shots on goal in the match as Malone keeper Angie Nutial made six saves.

Malone will return to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at home against NAIA #10 Indiana Wesleyan University (5-2-0 overall).
