Mt. Vernon Nazarene Tops Malone 2-0 In Semifinal Round of NCCAA East Region Tournament

Malone ended its 2010 campaign with a final overall record of 8-9-1

Box Score

The Malone University women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday afternoon in the semifinal round of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) East Region Tournament. Wednesday's result was a repeat of the Pioneers' final contest of the regular season, a match Malone lost at home to the Cougars on October 30th by an identical 2-0 final. Mount Vernon Nazarene improved to 13-6-1 overall with the victory and will now advance to Saturday's NCCAA East Region Championship Match against the winner of tonight's other semifinal contest between Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College and Geneva (PA) College. The Pioneers, meanwhile, brought their solid 2010 campaign to a close with a final overall record of 8-9-1.

MVNU forward Jessica Estep staked her team to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 16th minute of Wednesday's contest. She then added an insurance score 11 minutes into the second half. This two-goal advantage held up the rest of the way as the stingy Cougar defense notched its 14th shutout of the year.

Mt. Vernon Nazarene held a slim 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Malone keeper Angie Nutial made three saves while Cougar keeper Jenessa Loewen stopped all four shots she faced.
