Box Score
The Malone University women's soccer team scored four times in the first ten minutes and never looked back en route to a 12-0 blowout of Penn State Beaver in a weather-shortened match on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers found the back of the net 10 times in the first half and then tacked on two more goals in the second stanza, giving Malone its highest offensive output since September 27th, 2007 when the squad registered a 13-0 victory over Kentucky Christian University. A thunderstorm rolled into the Monaca, Pennsylvania area with around 15 minutes remaining on the second-half clock, but the match was considered official since more than 70 minutes had been completed. The lop-sided, non-conference victory improved the Pioneers' overall record to 8-7-1 while Penn State Beaver, a member of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association), dropped to 0-13-0 in its inagural season of women's soccer.
Midfielder
Alyssa Foldesy got the scoring started less than three minutes into the contest, tallying her second goal of the year off a pass from fellow midfielder
Sarah Heckman. Forward
Cassy Daniels then put the Pioneers in front 2-0 less than a minute later as she pocketed her third goal of 2010 off a cross from midfielder
Katie Heckman.
After setting up her teammate on the previous score, Heckman was the recipient of a nice cross in the sixth minute, finishing to the near post after receiving the pass from forward
Holly Stuchell. Stuchell then wrapped up Malone's early offensive explosion in the ninth minute, netting her second goal of the year off a pass from
Sarah Heckman to push the Pioneer advantage to 4-0.
Stuchell and
Katie Heckman would both add two more goals apiece over the remainder of the match, giving them each hat tricks. Malone also received a second goal from Foldesy and solo tallies from midfielders
Susanna Jonkka,
Jen McFadden , and
Jasmine Evans to account for the 12-0 final.
Daniels,
Sarah Heckman, and
Katie Heckman each registered three assists in the contest, pushing
Katie Heckman to an impressive total of nine points on the day.
The Pioneers held a commanding 15-0 advantage in total shots on goal over the course of the afternoon as keepers
Ashley Kuhn and
Angie Nutial shared the shutout.
Malone will return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as it wraps up its regular-season schedule by hosting an American Mideast Conference match against Mt. Vernon Nazarene University.
Postseason Picture: Although the Pioneers have been eliminated from AMC postseason contention, the squad will still likely participate in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) regional playoffs. More information about the NCCAA East Region Tournament will be announced once it is available.
