Prior to Malone: Cobb was a three-year letter-winner for Bill Gamble's highly successful baseball program. During his senior campaign he led Jackson to an undefeated regular season and a Regional Semifinal appearance. Cobb was named First Team All-Ohio, All District, and All-Federal League. He was selected as both the Stark County Player of the Year and the Federal League Player of the Year.
